∞ 87: Rooftops [action]

[Around mid-morning, Albert can be seen picking up small things in the plaza -- nails, pens, groceries. He doesn't often do this, but it's been a week since he gave Caesar the task of repairing the stable, so he finds himself inspecting and repairing the amateurish work. That requires a few extra building supplies. Might as well take advantage of how calm everything is with the New Feathers coming in, right?

Albert spends the afternoon pulling out half-bent nails and readjusting crooked wooden slats. He can't say that he's disappointed, since Caesar actually tried to rebuild the stable's roof, but he can have the opinion that did a really shabby job. Silverbergs were apparently not very good roof-builders.

In the evening, after dinner, he'll be found up on house 42's roof, having climbed up through the skylight. It's something he's never really taken advantage of, and yet there's something familiar about it. He remains out there for a good while, almost meditating.]

[He blinks, the wind flowing between his hands dissipating as he opens his eyes. He looks behind him, towards the skylight, seeing Raine.]

I'm fine, Raine.

You've been up here for some time. Is something on your mind?

I thought I would attempt speaking with the spirits. I haven't tried for quite awhile.

They were quite frazzled for a few weeks. It makes me wonder at their connection to this world.

Did you have any luck?

Yes. I have been contacting Kipinn up here.

...We've been told that they weren't supposed to exist, and they continue affecting this world. And us.

They continue to affect the world... but the world, in turn, affects them. [She remembers that explanation, but the phrase 'not supposed to exist' hits home harder than it normally might have.]

Kipinn... I see. I suppose the elevation would work well for that.

[He nods briefly.] It was either this or head to the community building.

... I see. What made you choose the wind spirit?

Availability. The easiest to locate were Faeren and Kipinn. [And his alternate's memories had him wondering about his affinity with wind magic.]

Nala would be the easiest, technically speaking.

Of the ones I have contacted. [Clarification.]

Fair enough. Have you contacted all of them besides her, then?

No. I have not tried to contact Hyt, either.

I would have thought he would have been up your alley. Being quiet and reclusive, and occasionally difficult.

Frankly, its reclusive nature is one of the reasons I haven't sought it out. If it is reluctant to teach, I do not wish to coax a connection out of it.

I didn't really have that much difficulty with him, personally. He was easier to learn from than some of the others.

But you have an affinity for light, do you not?

Hm. I suppose I do, to some extent.

I have no such affinities, so it was more a matter of convenience, especially when the spirits were so new to us.

If it was only a matter of convenience, why ignore Nala?

Because I was not seeking the need to heal. [Simple as that.]

[She just shakes her head.] With your track record, it just seems a little strange to not do so. I suppose there's no use in questioning such decisions now, in any case.

[He raises a brow at the comment of a "track record," but doesn't say anything. If she wishes to dismiss the topic, that's fine with him.]

In any case, Kipinn was the reason I came up here. You needn't worry.

You've been saying that a lot lately. Usually when I have reason to worry.
