Perhaps they feel they have worked out any abnormalities in the previous barrier. It might be worth going through tests already performed in the past, considering the new perimeter boundaries. We may even wish to look other areas that may not seem obvious; the span of the barrier south of the village, or beyond the western forest, or even beyond the northern lake.
