∞ 101: Quiet disappearance [voice/action]

[It's almost midnight and he hasn't received a response from Raine for almost three hours. Raine could be kept busy after school from time to time, but she had not mentioned anything that would keep her out late today -- especially this late.]

Has anyone seen or spoken to Professor Sage today? She is not answering to messages from her journal.

[Despite the chill in the air so late at night, Albert stands out on the porch outside of his house. There is fortunately no snow tonight, so he was able to send out Rune to scout around the nearby forests.

Part of him has already concluded that it's likely Raine was abducted by the rogue facilities. She had certainly not been sent back to her world, as her belongings were still intact and the journal system still recognized that she was there. But ... there was the faint concern that something else might have happened. Luceti wasn't safe from its own residents, after all.]

[Whenever Albert finally comes back inside, he might notice a small, colorful ball rolling toward the front door. That's because in the dining room, Caesar is lying on the ground, playing with Kogoro. When the ball got away, Caesar rolled over to reach for it, only to notice that it had gotten too far. Darn.

Caesar looks up at his brother then. He is clearly the most productive at this time of night.]

Nothing, huh?

[Albert eyes the ball as it rolls into the foyer, frowning slightly and turning to shut the door behind him. Rune sits on his shoulder, his head buried under one wing.]

Not at the moment. It should be easier to look around tomorrow; the sky should remain clear.

Sounds like a plan. [Even though he was sure the circumstances were pretty obvious by now. Oh well. More importantly... He gestures to the ball.] Uh... Could you kick that over here?

[...that's not a particularly welcoming thing to hear at this time of night. And in this case, concern overrides her natural reluctance to speak to a Silverberg.]

When was the last time you saw her?

[He notes to himself how Nami's response is somewhat unexpected, but responds promptly.]

This morning, before she left for the schoolhouse. I have been trying to contact her since earlier this evening.

I found her stuff.

No... I haven't.

[... he knows what the most likely cause of that is. It would be nice to be proven wrong, but the odds are against it.]

[ she makes a special dispensation to pass by the house on her rounds -- her patrols, now widened to look for raine. ]

Oh, Albert...[ quietly, she climbs the porch. ]

[The frown deepens slightly before he lightly kicks the ball back towards the dining room. The ball rolls and bounces slightly on the carpet, veering more towards the table than towards Kogoro's bed. Albert pays the ball no mind after that, turning to exchange his boots for his slippers.]

I'm sure something will come up; one of her friends or students should mention something sooner or later.

[He frowns at the private line, and even more so when he hears its contents.]

Her staff? Where?

[This is perfectly fine, because Caesar is lying down close to the table, so when the ball makes its way over, it bumps into him. He picks it up and rolls it back to Kogoro.]

Probably. If no one says anything, maybe it's a conspiracy.

[Hah. That would be amusing. Kogoro uses his nose to push the ball back.]

How paranoid of you. [He shakes his head faintly, walking over to the dining room. Despite the hour, he has not eaten, so he steps over his brother on his way to the kitchen.]

Do you want something to eat?

Hn. [He would like to be proven wrong as well, but this is Luceti...] If you happen to see her, Doctor, I would appreciate a word.

[Albert's breath is still visible against the cold air, as he has been walking in and out of the house for the last hour. He looks over at Buffy when he hears her voice, and there is something knowing about her tone that tells him she knows.]

You heard my question over the journals? [He asks anyway.]

[Caesar looks up when his brother steps over him, just to make sure he doesn't "accidentally" step on him or something. Still, there's a smirk on his face when he responds.]

Is that an offer?

For once. [The sarcasm is evident in his voice.] A novel idea, your brother cooking for you.

Novel indeed! [Caesar sits, then uses the edge of the dining room table to pull himself up. He follows his brother into the kitchen, standing by the doorway.] Need a hand?

I suppose that depends on what you want to eat. [He looks over his shoulder at his brother, noting that he had actually followed him rather than spend more time playing with his dog.] We don't have any leftovers from yesterday.

[When Sparrow hears this message, he tries to contact Raine himself. It doesn't work. He slams shut his journal in frustration.

Later, he does take a wander past the house with the purpose of quizzing Albert.]

Silverberg. Mistress Raine -- she back yet? Answering anything?

If you haven't eaten yet, I guess we should pick something that won't take too long to prepare. But I'm not picky. I ate a little bit earlier.

[Way earlier, since his brother hadn't cooked.]

I ate. [...Well. "Snacked" would probably be more accurate.] But if you intend to be up for awhile, I can cook soup.

[Kogoro pads into the room after the brothers, carrying his ball in his mouth. He drops the toy, then has to chase after it as rolls into the kitchen island.]

[Oh no... Raine... Not you too.]

... She was present at the school as always, today. When I last saw her, she was headed home. Did she not arrive there?

Well, yeah, her staff, but some of her other stuff too. When I went to ask her something in the school she wasn't there, so I kinda looked around. It was all scattered on the way home.

...Uh. Your home.

She took the shortcut through the forest? [...] When was this, Sheena?

When did I go over there? A little bit before I was gonna have dinner. But I didn't find anything [read: Look in the right place to find things] for a couple hours once I started really looking.

...Your bird is here. Outside the window. Does he wanna come in or...?
