[Albert's face is tilted heavenward as he makes motions through the air -- not with his dominant right hand, but with a bloody left. Summoned creatures are absent as he focuses all of his energy -- more than he can, as he has not slept since the experiment's beginning -- into the ritual passed down to him by their grandfather. His eyes are shut, and he does not react to the nearby presence.]

[There's no more time; Caesar knows this intimately as he forces himself into a rush across the clearing. It's a traitorous attack, without warning, but Caesar remembers with horror the way his men were mutilated beneath the demon's swords; he can smell brimstone and knows he's out of options.

The next few seconds are much like a dream; he'll remember the way the sun glints off the sharp steel blade, and the hollow, inhuman emptiness of Albert's voice as he calls forth his demon. He'll remember thinking that with Albert's head tipped that way, opening his throat would be as simple as turning the page of a book, and he'll remember knowing in that split second that even if it means breaking this promise, there's no way he can kill his brother, not even if it means the life of himself and everyone in Luceti. And yet...

Reality sets in when he drives the dagger home and Albert's blood splashes across his face, one hand clutching a fist full of black feathers.]
