∞ 69: After the first heavy snowfall [written/action]

Introductions, I suppose. I haven't written one in quite awhile. My name is Albert Silverberg, and I have been a resident in Luceti for over two years now. A welcome to our New Feathers; here's hoping the welcome center and other residents make captivity as hospitable as possible.

Blue Rogues, please keep an eye out for the abducted and any stragglers from this month's New Feather cycle. The snow may make it especially difficult to traverse the forest.

I suggest everyone take heed of this amount of snowfall and prepare accordingly. Extra blankets, warmer clothing, stockpiling in case of a blizzard. The weather hasn't been this cold in the past to warrant snow this early. Long-time residents may recall that we had great amounts of rain around this time in the past two years -- enough to affect the terrain with floods and severe erosion.

I was told that there was a young lady who would customize jewelry. I would like to speak with her if possible.

[vaguely amused] Did I forget to mention your powers would be reduced in captivity? How careless of me.

[One may find Albert outside of house 42 if they are looking for him. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he's shoveling snow now that the snowfall has stopped.]

[He doesn't care that he's not used to this kind of work. Actually, he's trying to mentally prepare himself for the insults that may come as a result of his fail!shoveling. But he's going to try hard not to mess this up, despite the fact that every time he looks up, that stable is looking farther and farther away...]

[Fortunately for Caesar, Albert's not paying attention to his fail!shoveling. He's making use of the awkward situation by trying to break the ice. ...Metaphorically.] When was the last time you saw snow?

[He pauses a minute in his fail!shoveling to consider this. It had been a long time, but seeing the snow here didn't feel unnatural at all. Back to shoveling!] I don't remember. It's been a while. You?

[Since he had been in Luceti for the last two years, Albert had certainly seen snow each year. Never this early.] The first year I was here, I remember it snowed the first time in December. December 9th or 10th.

You remember the date? [He looks up at that. It had probably been a long time for him, too, then, but he'll ask anyway.] What about before you got here?

[wryly] It was an eventful date.

Quite some time before the campaign. Crystal Valley has its share of the rougher seasonal weather.

[Weirdo. He has the feeling it's better not to ask, though.] Oh. Thought so. It might have been Crystal Valley for me, too.

[Good, Caesar, good. You don't need to know what your other self did waaaay back then for him.] What were you doing in Crystal Valley?

[He shrugs. Helpful Caesar is helpful.] Ask Apple. I slept through most of that trip. It was a while ago, anyway.

[He snorts, digging his shovel into the snow roughly and tossing the snow over his shoulder with particular force.] That sounds like you.

[He'll be taking that reaction as a compliment, thanks. He may be smirking a little over here.] Did you expect anything less?

I shouldn't, should I? It seems to be part of your "charm."

I guess it's up to you. [He stops for a moment to check his progress. Hey, the stable's not so far away now.] Shoveling snow is boring. Have you been at this for a while?

Awhile, yes. [dryly] You should know by now I have patience a mile wide. Else you wouldn't have survived childhood.

[It's Caesar's turn to dig the shovel into the snow a bit too roughly now.] I bet you wouldn't have survived it, either. Guess snow doesn't even compare.

Would you want me to compare growing up with you to clearing snow?

Uhh... no thanks. Though I don't doubt that you could do it. [But the strangeness of it was almost enough to make him say yes. Almost.]

I could. But you weren't a bad kid, so there's no point.

I-- [wait what. He nearly drops his shovel over here.] I wasn't?

You were a child, Caesar.

I know that. You just have a habit of making it sound much worse than that.

The fact that you don't remember how you acted as a child is rather-- [disappointing? worrisome?] --surprising.

I was just surprised by what you said. I was expecting you to remind me that I was a real pain or something, which wouldn't be unreasonable. I don't think I'd have had the patience.

Do you think you were a sarcastic idiot from the moment you were born? If you were, I certainly would have lost my temper.

I guess it's a good thing I wasn't, then. Though, I'd think it'd take a lot more than that to make you really lose your temper.
