∞ 74: A windy day [action]

[Despite the mild windiness today, Albert is sitting out on the porch of his house. He has a few notes and his journal with him, but he's mostly just out there to think and drink a little. The town meeting was just yesterday, and it certainly proved a few things he had surmised about the populace. There had been a few opinions he had heard that more clearly showed others' state of mind (some for the better, most for the worse), and he had to readjust those plans accordingly.

Now to think of the next course of action.]

[Because Albert would rather not stare at that comment box after the ... bad experiences attached to it, he's actually got it out in front of the house, on the porch. It looks rather out of place.]

[Excellent! Nash is definitely going to walk up to the comment box, take a writing utensil and piece of paper out from...somewhere amongst his pockets, and start tapping the pen without seeming to write anything.]

What do you think I should write?

[Have a blank look, Nash. It's especially noticeable since Albert had his glass halfway to his lips, and he had to set it back down.]

You could comment on Harmonia's assortment of hats for inanity's sake.

I wasn't aware you needed the education! Having worked so closely with various Bishops. I suppose we can't trust outsiders to understand the ways of the One Temple.

[He does contemplate drawing some funny hats, though.]

Certainly not. I've yet to master the intricacies of the inner circles. [And now he completes his earlier attempt to sip his wine.]

But what good would they do you here?

Not all of the suggestions were helpful. [Or suggestions at all.] I suppose that isn't surprising, though.

Ah, well, you can't elect to become a great hero and then expect people to give you good advice. Being a hero is all about ignoring good advice, anyway.

...Hn. The last thing we need around here is another hero.

And yet, that's exactly who they're going to bring in more of. I don't know, though, I'd take more bright-eyed idiots with swords over some of company you keep. At least they give me a chance to feel intelligent and self-satisfied. Instead of merely...injured.

It's dangerous to have so many of one sort here. There are many here who come from "small ragtag rebel groups" that somehow topple a world-threatening entity.

And so few world-threatening entities to topple.

Quite. The power levels of some of the residents will also undoubtedly make them overconfident.

Oh, you don't need power to be overconfident. Very few people are aware of what they're actually capable of.

Perhaps I should clarify -- they will be overconfident because they think they are strong in comparison to others. And especially in comparison to the Third Party.

Going into battle knowing so little of your opponents strikes me as over-confident regardless. But the options are limited, and I might treasure information too highly.

Well, unlike some, you ask questions, Nash.

What can I say? I'm a professional.

A professional at doing what, though? It must be a little different with the Bishop's disappearance.

Do you think I was taking orders from him while he was here?

[chikaidestroyer]

[He's going to give you a look, Nash. What kind of question is that?]

You were the one talking about changes in my occupation with his Grace gone.

[chikaidestroyer]

And you were trying to imply that you did not report to the Bishop.

Do you think my allegiance to the Holy Kingdom is one of loyalty or one of necessity? The better question is where do I go when Harmonia goes, not where do I go when His Grace does.

Who knows? You could very well follow your mistress back to her home.
