chikaidestroyer | ∞ 79: A post-battle report [written]

Everyone drafted out to Desset City should be accounted for by now. My gratitude to those who successfully worked together while we were out there.

I am sure there are residents and recent arrivals who may have questions about the situation and what we encountered out there. As longer-term residents may remember, we first encountered an army of cultists last autumn -- these cultists are referred to as the Third Party. The members of the Third Party, unlike us, have the ability to fly and Shift their surroundings. The scientists keeping us in this barrier, the Malnosso, drafted several of us to head out to another settlement.

We have been told that Desset City, the location we were sent to, was one of several settlements outside of our village. It was unlike anything seen within our barrier prison. The troops we met were an occupational force, maintaining patrols and one major base of operations that became apparent towards the end of our campaign. Despite the Third Party having a greater number of troops, we prevailed. The arrival of electricity and appliances coincide with our successful return.

Of note is the fact that draftees who initially refused were dragged by force onto the battlefield. These reluctant draftees were given less time to prepare, and included the likes of children. If you are drafted in the future, be aware that refusal does not appear to be a valid option. You will be taken and put to work, or you will be killed out there.

The New Feather cycle should begin shortly, so everyone should be on alert and maintaining their patrol schedules. This is especially important with the heightened amount of conflict in Luceti. Patrols should be properly equipped for skirmishes by now, so I'll forgo any other needless reminders.

Just a bit. I'll be fine in a minute. [She tries to adjust the towel again. Still damp.]

Perhaps you shouldn't go to school, if you're getting sick.

[Well she heard the last part.]

I'm not getting sick, Albert.

[He couldn't hear most of that sentence, but he already knows what you would be saying, Raine.]

If you say so. [He'll step away and head back towards his room again.]

[She can't really hear that. But if he's moving away, maybe Raine could make that attempt to move down the hall. Or at least the spare room, it was perfectly reasonable... reasoning.

She waits a few moments, before moving toward the door, and poking her head out.]

[Albert's door is open. But he isn't immediately visible in the room, which means he must be further in there. Probably contemplating drinking wine.]

[Her hair and wings are still dripping, but Raine frowns and covers herself as much as she can with that one towel before making an attempt to get to the spare room.

The change in air from the bathroom to the hall encourages another sneeze before she gets there.]

[Albert tilts his head when he hears the sneeze, which is not quite as muffled now that Raine isn't behind the bathroom door. He stands up again and heads towards the hall to see if Raine is in fact done.]

[Well, she reached the room, but realized that it would just be easier to go to the linen closet instead. If Albert reaches the hall, he might catch her there. As that door isn't opening easily. Especially when you're trying to keep yourself covered up with your dominant hand...]

Ridiculous.

[He certainly does notice this ... odd 'story' forming in the hallway. The bathroom door is still open, there seems to be a trail of water in the hallway, and ... he can't seem to open a door to what should be an empty room.]

...Raine?

[Albert's voice again. She just blinks at the closed door. Well, there were two possible answers here. Maybe.]

... Is the handle stuck?

...There's no reason for the handle to be stuck.

[Then it just must mean that - oh.] Right... I suppose not.

[.........]

... You... wouldn't happen to know if we had any ... clean towels around, would you?

[...............]

There were no towels in the bathroom?

... Just one. [..........] The hamper was completely full.

[A long silence.]

You could have asked this earlier.

Ah, well, I suppose I -

[...

She sneezes.]

[A slight sigh.]

You are getting sick.

I just need to dry off, that's all.

[Another sigh. Oh Raine.]

...I will see if I can find a towel.

[And Albert steps away from the door to head for the linen closet.]

... All right.

[A towel or some alternative. ... In the meantime she's still dripping everywhere. Raine steps away from the door to wait near the wall.]

[...Hm. No towels. Albert debates giving Raine one of the clean bedsheets for now, but decides to return to the room instead.]

It looks like we're completely out of towels. Do you keep a bathrobe in your room?

There should be one in there. [... Unless it's also dirty.]

All right. [And off he goes again, in search of ... well, anything resembling a towel.]
