∞ 84: Solace from time's passage [action/written]

[Today Albert is in the sitting room of his house, leafing through a few books idly. The weather is disappointingly rainy for summer, but it's a pleasant change from the heat earlier in the week.

Eventually, he will fall asleep on the couch. It was just supposed to be a nap -- half an hour at most. But that half an hour turns into a whole hour. And then two. (This may even repeat in his bedroom later on.)

Sometime later in the evening, he will write in his journal.]

Accomplishments could be said to be life's milestones. Some are far apart, and others are so close together that they may very well overlap. Some may be considered mundane, and others utterly unique to your circumstances.

If you are willing, I would like to hear of a mundane accomplishment. Something that others could relate to. I will share one of my own: I graduated from school as a teenager.

Yeah. Except, I didn't get either of those.

[You can bet she'd sound proud if she was speaking aloud.]

[That's ... certainly a different one.] A very specific title. Were they aware of your occupation?

People weren't keen on admitting it too loudly--but, yeah. Guess they were. I suppose you can't go that long saving everyone's hides without even a smidgen of recognition.

Being recognized is oftentimes more positive than negative. It left a good impression upon you, correct?

Definitely. Warm fuzzies and everything.

[After all, she practically cried when the prize of a cute gold umbrella was broken--heartlessly--by a bitch of a vampire.]

I do hope you have more chances to be recognized by your peers, then.

Yes. Particularly the kind of recognition that comes with home-baked cakes.

Not particular to baking for yourself?

I'm a walking disaster in the kitchen. Baking would not be one of my accomplishments.

[She does, at least, suspect that she could do better than Raine.]

I can see why you would appreciate a good cake.
