∞ 84: Solace from time's passage [action/written]

[Today Albert is in the sitting room of his house, leafing through a few books idly. The weather is disappointingly rainy for summer, but it's a pleasant change from the heat earlier in the week.

Eventually, he will fall asleep on the couch. It was just supposed to be a nap -- half an hour at most. But that half an hour turns into a whole hour. And then two. (This may even repeat in his bedroom later on.)

Sometime later in the evening, he will write in his journal.]

Accomplishments could be said to be life's milestones. Some are far apart, and others are so close together that they may very well overlap. Some may be considered mundane, and others utterly unique to your circumstances.

If you are willing, I would like to hear of a mundane accomplishment. Something that others could relate to. I will share one of my own: I graduated from school as a teenager.

My apologies, Mr. Silverberg. I am Ciel Phantomhive.

[A pause then before pressing on to his first point] I have begun to realize, however, that perhaps the world I am familiar with has certain... conveniences alien to others situated here. [Even if some of the things here like say a microwave are alien to him]

I can imagine the confusion which must have resulted from such a shift. Even through a gradual "Revolution" there are those who would reject progress in the Empire.

It has been dubbed by some as an "Industrial Revolution." [A pause and a light smile plays at his lips. Truth be told, that ended a while ago, or at least is trailing out, but the idea remains] It is an era of progress and innovation, which has resulted in social changes to meet the needs of a changed economic and commercial structure.

Quite. The Yard is taxed to even begin to keep up when the "underworld" of the Empire begins to enter the "light." [He chuckles lightly to himself... before giving out-] Though naturally, Her Majesty has prepared methods to counteract such instances.

There have been some. Not last summer there was a killer loose in the capitol who caused quite a stir; the papers dubbed them "Jack the Ripper."

Five women [he neglects to mention that they were all prostitutes, but alas] were murdered within a period of three months. Perhaps the news took interest in them from the utter lack of evidence lest at the crime scenes, leading to them continuing to evade capture.

While no criminal was ever apprehended by the Yard, the murders did indeed cease with the coming of winter. [Though his tone clearly says "they were caught in secret"]

That she was. The murders in grand city were upsetting her so. [Ciel, meanwhile, keeps himself fixed on the book which clearly has nothing to do with his chair being too big for him to fit in right.
