∞ 101: Quiet disappearance [voice/action]

[It's almost midnight and he hasn't received a response from Raine for almost three hours. Raine could be kept busy after school from time to time, but she had not mentioned anything that would keep her out late today -- especially this late.]

Has anyone seen or spoken to Professor Sage today? She is not answering to messages from her journal.

[Despite the chill in the air so late at night, Albert stands out on the porch outside of his house. There is fortunately no snow tonight, so he was able to send out Rune to scout around the nearby forests.

Part of him has already concluded that it's likely Raine was abducted by the rogue facilities. She had certainly not been sent back to her world, as her belongings were still intact and the journal system still recognized that she was there. But ... there was the faint concern that something else might have happened. Luceti wasn't safe from its own residents, after all.]

[Albert does not look pleased that Caesar isn't doing what he told him to do, but he does pull away the towel briefly to look at the cut. Now that he looked at it, he could see it was a little deeper than intended, but he was not gushing out blood by any means.]

It's fine for the moment, but pressure should still be applied.

Fine. [Approving of this answer somewhat, Caesar rinses his hands at the sink first before finding a ladle to stir the soup with. He only does this for a moment before he has to ask...] You know we could have done this without you bleeding all over the place, right?

I had hoped to incite a feeling of urgency, but apparently that gamble did not pay off. [He presses the towel back against the wound, keeping his arm elevated.]

That's because you did it on purpose, you jerk. Next time, at least try to make it look more like an accident, okay?

[Certainly, if it had looked like an accident, Caesar would've rushed to take care of him. But knowing the truth, he was allowed to be a little stubborn, he was sure.

...even if seeing his brother bleed like that was sort of... unnerving. Totally not scary, though. Totally. He stirs the soup a bit longer, then goes to grab another towel. He runs it under warm water, adding a little bit of soap.]

And you will rush over and apply your knowledge wholeheartedly? Good to know. [The sarcasm should be obvious, even as he wiggles his fingers to ensure they are still receiving circulation.]

If you're lucky. [He sighs, kneeling down again with the fresh towel so he can clean the wound. He's sure that he won't have to do very much. The knife his brother had used was clean, after all. He'll take the bloody towel and set it aside, then start using the new towel to clean up a bit. Unlike earlier, he's far more careful, far more gentle when he does this.] I can't believe you did that!

[...well. He can and he can't. But just because he didn't rush, it doesn't mean he wasn't shocked.]

Don't sound so scandalized. It's not as if I am bleeding all over the floor. [He keeps his eyes open as he watches Caesar work; he wants to see what he's doing and be sure to correct him if he's doing something incorrectly.]

So that makes it okay? [Jerk. He's careful not to irritate the cut as he cleans it, but he's slightly relieved that he doesn't have to do much more than this. He sets the towel aside and then reaches for the medical kit. There was probably something in here he could use to bandage it, he just had to... find it.] If I told you I was learning to use a weapon, would you challenge me to a fight?

[The question is thick with sarcasm, of course.]

I could probably take you down before you came within six feet of me. [Okay, that was probably not true, but the concussive force of that ring was pretty impressive. At times.] Compression bandage. There should be some in there. [It was even clearly marked, if he remembered correctly. It's been awhile since he's dug through that kit's contents.]

I know, I know. [The bandages are easy enough to find. He takes them out and starts unrolling them.] Then I suppose I shouldn't tell you that.

[...not that it should be surprising that he was. He had said that he'd take care of it, after all.]

That you are learning to use a weapon? ...It's about time. [He sighs, adjusting his grip on his wrist.] And who is your teacher? Or are you going to tell me you are self-teaching yourself?

[Caesar huffs, but doesn't directly respond at first. He takes his brother's arm instead and starts using the bandages to wrap it. Since he's never done this before, he tries hard to wrap the bandages firm, but not tight.]

Some guy named Leonhardt. [He tries to think of how to describe him.] A man with silver hair and violet eyes, probably around your age. His skill with a sword is surprisingly impressive.

Leonhardt. I know the name. The man. [They had spoken over the locked system sometime ago.] A good first impression...

[He trails off with a wince as Caesar starts bandaging the arm, eyes narrowing briefly.]

Really? [Caesar smirks a little to himself as he works.] Glad I'm not the only one who thought so. He's not too bad of a teacher. A smart guy.

[Just a little bit more. He does notice his brother wince, but he doesn't say anything. He'll just try to wrap his arm a bit more loosely.]

[The wince is very brief, and soon Albert is back to form.] Hn. It's a wonder he has the patience to deal with you.

Probably because he's trained people younger than me before.

[He saw no point in arguing with his brother about what kind of student he was. Jerk. Caesar holds the end of the bandage in place, using his other hand to go through the box to find something to hold the bandages.]

[With his arm in the process of being bandaged, Albert again shuts his eyes and concentrates on keeping his muscles relaxed. He'll even be quiet for awhile, probably much to Caesar's relief.]

[Caesar definitely doesn't mind it. While he was confident about what he was doing (it was very simple, after all), it was the thought of criticism that made him nervous. He thinks he's done alright so far, though. Hopefully.

...oh, here we are. A couple of clips will do the trick. Once he puts them on, he'll look up at his brother.]

Is that okay?

[Albert opens his eyes and wiggles his fingers again, this time forming a loose fist. Then he starts pushing himself to his feet.]

It's decent. You should have applied medicine.

I have to check the soup. [So there was no time for medicine, obviously. He picks up the dirty towels and stands up, too.] Does it hurt?

[Well, two can play at that game.]

I should start washing the dishes.

[Caesar sighs in annoyance. He started it, so of course he sees what you just did there.]

Fine, you're right. I just figured that since it's you, it probably won't get infected. So does it hurt?

[He sets the towels aside and goes to the sink to rinse his hands again.]

Of course it hurts. But the point was made, and the wound will heal. [And, well, he can't really wash this dishes with his wrist as stiff as it currently was.]

You're really something else, you know that? [But he just shakes his head. So typical of his brother. So very typical. After he finishes rinsing his hands, he goes to stir the soup again.] You should sit down. I'll take care of this stuff.

[About the only thing his brother could do in the kitchen at this point, he was sure, was eat his dinner. ...it should probably be finished soon, now that he thinks about it.]

Just as planned. [Albert says wryly, carefully pushing away from the counter and heading over to the island to sit on one of the stools.]
