∞ 52: Patience [action]

[Considering what's been going on with his housemates recently (that is, Raine working herself into sickness), it should come as little surprise that Albert is out of the house. Unlike most of his other outings, he is notably astride his white horse as he travels through the village.

The horse seems to want to wander off and look at the various things in the village square. Albert tries his best to be patient with his steed's curiosity, though he did have somewhere he wanted to go.]

[Whoops. Didn't mean to get them in trouble, there.]

Ah, right. I'll be on my way home soon anyway, as soon as I'm done here.

How was her fever when you left? Do you think we need to get a doctor or something...? [Worry worry worry.]

[It's a good thing Albert doesn't get involved in the school and what the students do when they should be in class.]

She hasn't progressed into anything worse; she really just needs to stay hydrated and not overwork herself. [His lips twitch wryly at the thought.] You can help out by keeping her mainly on soups.

And, of course, by making sure she doesn't go about doing her research and studying of the journal when she should be resting.

She doesn't seem to be able to eat a lot of soup, though. I got her some plain crackers, in case her appetite dips, again. Oh, and some lemons, to make some flat lemonade...

And it would be just like her to sneak some papers into bed. Should we confiscate her journal, or something?

[He actually pauses when those particular fruits are mentioned again. Rice-stuffed lemons. Lemon cake. Flat lemonade.] ...Does your sister have a fondness for lemons?

It would be best to minimize her distractions, yes -- and her journal is easily the greatest distraction one could have at this point. We will need to take her journal and keep it until she isn't quite as ill as she is presently.

... That's one way to put it. I'm pretty sure she just likes the extra citrus-y tang they give. She seems to like limes, too. In any case, I've heard that lemonade's good for sick people, so I thought I'd get some.

-Ah, she won't like that, though.

Does she try to put that sweet-and-sour taste into everything she cooks? [He pauses, considering something else.] ...She also takes seems to focus her dishes on the spices.

You don't always like what's good for you. It will only be until she feels better.

Honestly, she just wants to put some sort of twist into whatever she's making in the kitchen. Which is original, definitely, but I don't think she realizes that her experimenting can have... potentially harmful aftereffects.

[He pauses as well, and thinks of his being locked up, previously.] ... Right, okay then.

...Why doesn't she eat her own cooking? [It's a question he's wondered about since the first time he tried Raine's cooking, but he had been too busy coughing to inquire.]

I actually had another question I wanted to ask you. There had been plans for an expedition to the ruins east of the mountains. The last time Raine went there with anyone ... she continuously wore herself out running around the ruins. Is it likely that would happen again?

... You know, I'm not sure why? [He frowns thoughtfully] I dunno; but she likes cooking for others.

And about the ruins ... Goddess, Raine. You and your Ruin Mode. [And this is Genis facepalming]

... Yeah, it's likely it'll happen again. Sorry you had to see that, Albert. It's just- she gets a bit... excited around anything related to archaeology.

If she likes cooking for others so much, she should work on making food that's ... ... edible. [It's said with a good deal of hesitation.]

She can't help herself in those kinds of situations? It's odd, to say the least.

She should, though I'm not sure if that's going to help any. Apparently sticking to the recipe makes the food boring. My sister just likes being... creative.

Yeah, well... She's got a special place in her heart, for ruins. [he shrugs] We were abandoned by some, after all.

Surely there are other ways that she can be creative.

Is that so? And thus she looks to all sorts of ruins in the same way? [Strange quirk. Obsessive.]

[He pauses, thinking this over.] ... My sister needs a hobby.

Well, abandoned isn't really the right term to use. But - yeah. I guess. Somehow.

... Go ahead and say it's weird; I know it is. [Sigh.]

[Even spoken fairly softly, Albert can hear that.] She needs something to do that won't add to her stress.

[Rather than outright acknowledging that it's weird, Albert sighs.] Is there anything else about the professor's ... quirks that are fairly worrisome?

Yeah... I'm not sure what she else it is that she could be doing, though. She's always been working...

Quirks? Eh, none that are worrisome. Unless you count how she's prone to backhanding me on the head. Does that count?

Perhaps reading? [pause] Learning how to follow recipes? Or even communicating with the spirits here in this world. It would take her mind off her journal, certainly.

...I suppose it would. I don't see much of a temper from her at all.

Reading things other than her notes, you mean. And following recipes is a bit of a long shot for her, but I guess we could try that. And I've been meaning to ask her about the spirits here, and learning the magic, though that might just add to her stress...

Cloud says we should take all her coffee away from her, though!

I would argue that learning about the spirits here is a completely different type of stress than what she puts herself through on a daily basis. It also carries with it less chance of whittling time away with busywork, as she's so prone to doing.

I haven't seen her as very reliant on coffee, but that's a good point as well.

I guess that's true. She gets to caught up with her busywork, so that probably works. I'll ask her about it when she's better!

[He nods, pausing as he realizes how long they've been conversing.] I shouldn't be keeping you distracted right now; we both have errands to finish before returning to the house. [Who knew what Raine would do if she woke up and no one was around?]

Ah, right. I'll see you later back at the house, then!
