∞ 69: After the first heavy snowfall [written/action]

Introductions, I suppose. I haven't written one in quite awhile. My name is Albert Silverberg, and I have been a resident in Luceti for over two years now. A welcome to our New Feathers; here's hoping the welcome center and other residents make captivity as hospitable as possible.

Blue Rogues, please keep an eye out for the abducted and any stragglers from this month's New Feather cycle. The snow may make it especially difficult to traverse the forest.

I suggest everyone take heed of this amount of snowfall and prepare accordingly. Extra blankets, warmer clothing, stockpiling in case of a blizzard. The weather hasn't been this cold in the past to warrant snow this early. Long-time residents may recall that we had great amounts of rain around this time in the past two years -- enough to affect the terrain with floods and severe erosion.

I was told that there was a young lady who would customize jewelry. I would like to speak with her if possible.

[vaguely amused] Did I forget to mention your powers would be reduced in captivity? How careless of me.

[One may find Albert outside of house 42 if they are looking for him. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he's shoveling snow now that the snowfall has stopped.]

[You know, you wouldn't get your ~~stalker~~ brother in person today if it weren't for the fact that Yuber isn't something he wants to talk about on the journals. SIGH. So, also unsurprisingly, your brother is near as you work hard shoveling that snow! When did he get there? Who knows. Here's an awful attempt at starting conversation.]

So, how are you dealing with that little complication of yours?

[...not that he's expecting an answer, really.]

[Geez, stalker. The appearing out of nowhere bit is especially stalker-like. ...But Albert isn't surprised, of course. He has been waiting for this meeting for awhile. He doesn't look up from his work.]

Am I supposed to know what you are referring to?

[Wow. He was expecting something more along the lines of, "Caesar, get out." so this is different.]

I'm sure even you weren't filled with excitement when that demon jerk showed up.

[Maybe it should be considered odd. Albert continues shoveling snow as he speaks.]

Excitement. No, that would be what I was filled with when you showed up.

I'm flattered. Then, for him, the joy you felt must have been immense. Won't his presence make things difficult for you?

[Yes, yes it would.]

Is that why you're here? There have been a number of killers in Luceti in the past. One more can be dealt with.

[Oh, Albert. Why do you do this.]

That doesn't answer my question.

It certainly matters what "things" you are referring to.

You know he could ruin everything you have going for you right now in a matter of seconds. It doesn't even matter what your plans are this time, because he has no real purpose to serve here, does he?

Of course I know. And what do you expect me to do about it? He isn't something that can be killed -- especially here.

That's why I asked how you were dealing with it. I'd hate for the others to draw unnecessary attention to him, though I doubt he'd mind very much.

I'll deal with it however I can. I hope you have no intention of trying to confront him.

Yeah, right. Why would I waste my time with that? I'd like to have nothing to do with him, really.

You wasted time talking to him over the journals. Unless you were trying to decide if it was him or not.

He very well could have been another creepy demon for all I knew. There was the issue of when he came from, too, but that was easily solved by how well he remembered me. Unfortunately.

Just another reason not to confront him. Though he may not attack you since you are a Silverberg.

It's a possibility. He also said I'd die far too quickly to be amusing. It was probably an insult, but it was slightly reassuring. [He shrugs.] I'm not so worried about that. A confrontation of any sort is really the farthest thing from my mind anyway.

[And finally Albert stops in his shoveling to look over at Caesar. He flexes his gloves hands, as if working the ache out of the fingers.] Are you finished then, Caesar? If you have no other business, I'm still working here.

[Jerrrrk. Although, to be fair, he was expecting that sooner or later. And maybe it was a bad time. Still. He sighs.]

I suppose I could offer you a hand, but you probably don't want it anyway.

[He looks about ready to tell Caesar to just go away, but then seems to change his mind.]

What, you would choose to do work?

[Gosh, Albert. Caesar will never get you.]

I said I'd offer, didn't I? I'm almost confident that a little bit won't necessarily kill me.

[Albert is very confusing.]

Fine. You can help me clear the path to the stable. [He pulls out the shovel and offers it to Caesar.]

[He'll take the shovel without another word and go get started on that, then.

...of course, he's probably going to be pretty awkward about it at first. This isn't exactly a skill he's had a chance to perfect, and it's not one he'd want to, either.]

[Tough, Caesar -- your brother's had to do some labor himself without someone to do everything for him, so you're expected to do the same once in awhile. Albert walks towards the house to retrieve another shovel, then also goes to work on the pathway.]

[He doesn't care that he's not used to this kind of work. Actually, he's trying to mentally prepare himself for the insults that may come as a result of his fail!shoveling. But he's going to try hard not to mess this up, despite the fact that every time he looks up, that stable is looking farther and farther away...]
