∞ 82: Waiting for the next step [action]

[Now that things have calmed down around the village and the rain from earlier in the week has dried, Albert is getting around to cleaning up his poor garden. Long-wilted white and blue moonflowers and morning glories litter his garden where trellises are propped up next to them, so he's pruning and plucking them out from between the growing flowers.

His horse is hanging around the house today, eating from a bale of hay.

It's a pretty idle scene on a sunny day. At least he's not closed up in his room, reading old books and drinking wine. That can be saved for tomorrow, when the weather's even warmer.]

I see. I figured as much. [He nods.] Yes. I've met a fair few people from the future. Your brother among them. I figured you might be as well.

If you're wondering, I'm from during the war. By your calander, It would be Solar year 450.

And I, and my brother, are from the year 475. I am not yet born, from your timeline perspective.

All of us are taken from points of war, either during or shortly after. An odd phenomenon, but one we cannot really explain here.

[That... was odd. He had figured he was from the same time as Caesar, but the idea that the older man was not even born in his time was strange.] This place is so strange.

Be concerned when you find everything that goes on here "normal." [It's a wry joke. Of sorts.]

On a broader scale, I have a theory that people are brought here at times of great importance in their life. It isn't perfect though, as we have children here who would almost certainly experience more important events as they grow older. [He shakes his head.] But I will not bore you with half-structured ideas.

[He laughs a little, at that.] True, this place is anything but normal.

[He pauses a bit at Albert's theory.] That makes sense, though. It doesn't sound too far fetched to me, in any case. As for the children... Well, that just doesn't sit right in more ways then one.

[He nods slightly as Frey agrees with his theory.] I take it you have seen the children that have been brought into this world as well. [Of course, in some of these other war-less worlds, the likes of Freyjadour and Hugo would be considered children.]

Yes. The idea that they have been brought here... is disturbing, to say the least.

[He did not approve of it. At all.]

With the likes of our tree-tossing culprit, among other troublesome individuals. Have you been suitably warned of them? [He recalls their brief conversation about the desert and its "inhabitant."]

I've heard over the journals the past two disasters were caused by people here, but I have gotten no more information then that. Although....

During the swarm of those flesh eating butterflies, I met a strange man. He was a blond, with braided hair and wearing dark clothing. He seemed quite ready to attack Miakis and me, but we chose to avoid an altercation due to the urgency of the situation and run.

[He'd also pretty much said he was a killer.] Do you happen to know of him?

[He's silent for a moment as he listens to the prince. He had hoped Caesar had mentioned the demon.] That "man" would be the reason why it is unwise to enter the desert alone. But as you have seen, he isn't restricted to the desert by any means. That is the demon, Yuber.

[He had, he'd just... failed to mention how to identify him.] That's the demon?! He... looked so normal. Well, at least until he started talking. I figured he wasn't human, by the things he said, but...

I guess I'll have to keep a better eye out around here.

[He lets out a slow breath. There's only so much he can say about Yuber.] It would be in your best interest to avoid any confrontation with him.

I'll try. [It didn't mean he wasn't going to help someone if they were attacked by him. It also didn't stop him from keeping an eye out for him.] We ran because a fight would have been counterproductive to our goal of helping people. I don't seek a fight unless it's for a good reason.

[A "good reason" is so subjective, Prince. Nonetheless, Albert nods.] Very good. Your priorities have already served you well here.

I'll be honest: I don't like letting a killer run loose. But people come first, and if inciting him will make him lash out at others, then I'll leave him be as long as he doesn't do anything.

Not to mention if I seek a fight, it's likely I'd drag Miakis into it. With an unknown enemy it’s not a good idea.

Even if he was more dangerous than he presents himself, he would not be easily caught. And there are other individuals who more readily make themselves threats to the larger population -- the "assault" we had a few weeks ago, for example.

True. It's merely unsettling to know there is a potential threat running around that has not been kept in check. ["Unchecked" in any way that he knows of, anyway.]

That assault was far more dangerous, true. Trees... they could crush people so easily. Luckily, I had my Rune magic and met up with Tir.

Fortunately, we have many people capable of defending themselves and others here. And any damage to the buildings is repaired by the Malnosso, if it is left alone.

I find it interesting so many people here are able to fight or use magic. It is indeed fortunate, though.

Ah... The house thing... was interesting. [He’d forgotten about that and completely freaked out the morning he found their window and wall repaired.]
