∞ 82: Waiting for the next step [action]

[Now that things have calmed down around the village and the rain from earlier in the week has dried, Albert is getting around to cleaning up his poor garden. Long-wilted white and blue moonflowers and morning glories litter his garden where trellises are propped up next to them, so he's pruning and plucking them out from between the growing flowers.

His horse is hanging around the house today, eating from a bale of hay.

It's a pretty idle scene on a sunny day. At least he's not closed up in his room, reading old books and drinking wine. That can be saved for tomorrow, when the weather's even warmer.]

Well, thanks for the reminder. [Jerrrk. Okay, he's done. He sits back now, vaguely wondering what the lesson in all that was.] I can't even lay in your grass in peace!

[He drinks the rest of his water.] And you can't be expected to be treated like a guest when you imply you are going to make use of my kitchen. So we are even. [Just be glad he's not dropping his now-empty glass in your lap.]

Huh? I never expect that. [He's usually surprised when he gets that sort of treatment.] I offered because you were busy. I was trying to do you a favor.

[It doesn't occur to him that it was a particularly strange thing to do.]

A favor in which you also benefited.

[He will overlook the fact that it is strange. Probably confirming even more that he's a jerk.]

Like you wouldn't have done the same. Besides, if it was such a big deal, why didn't you just say no?

Because I am not one to make a big deal out of trivialities. [And yet he just did. If only you knew how much he amuses himself by getting reactions out of you at his own expense, Caesar.]

[Even at his own expense? Now that's just weird. Caesar has successfully been confused.]

But... you just- [...he really doesn't even know what he's supposed to say. He knows his brother is aware of what he just did.] F-forget it. We're even.

[If he played the game straight, it'd be far too easy to sidestep these things. So Albert will simply smirk and walk over to place the glass on the edge of the porch.]

[At least one Silverberg in this yard didn't think it was as amusing. :| He pulls his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around them and resting his head. He's still not sure how to feel about that.]

You should get back to work so I can keep sitting here doing nothing.

[Albert acknowledges Caesar's suggestion by walking right back to the garden.]

I shouldn't be encouraging your bad behavior.

I won't tell if you won't. I'm probably no good at this gardening stuff anyway.

[You won't know until you try. ...Why is that still in his mind? The problem with these experiments in Luceti was their lasting effects.]

You haven't the patience for mundane activities, I suppose.

Guess not. And you haven't the patience whatever terrible things I might do to your already sad-looking garden!

[He's just... trying not to cause too much trouble. Really.]

This is true. I don't know what I will do if you ruin my garden. [Besides walk in the house and promptly ignore your existence for a week.]

[Caesar will sleep on your lawn until you come back out.]

Then my current inaction is obviously the best move for the both of us. Don't worry, I don't mind just watching you work.

[Then he could tell you to get off his lawn.]

You aren't just watching. You're also talking.

[And he'll tell him to shut up because he's starting to sound like Apple - old.]

I could stop, I guess. But I'm not sure if I want to!

[We won't talk about what will happen on his 30th birthday then.]

Hn. Then I suppose I will have to make this talk productive for both of our sakes.

Have you seen Nash as of late?

[Caesar would rather not think about that, either, man.]

Ah, if you must, if you must. [Not that the type of conversation they have ever matters to him, obviously. He shakes his head at the question.] Can't say that I have, though. It seems like a lot of those guys have been pretty quiet lately. The ones from home, I mean. Uh, except for the griffin, but I suppose that can't be helped.

It's been generally quiet. [A slight tilt of his head towards Caesar.] But Nash was, as far as I know, assisting the villagers with dealing with the threats.

Maybe it's just because Lilly's gone. [There is no disappointment in that sentence.] Huh. That's right, he was, wasn't he? I can't figure out whether his intentions were genuine or if he was just trying to kill time. [...but that's always his problem with Nash.]

Miss Pendragon's absence has certainly left a void. [And there is no disappointment there, either.] Nash's intentions are only as troublesome as the results are. There has been little change in the ways that the threats have been dealt with.

Isn't that a surprise! They seemed pretty persistent about it, too. Not that I know much about what they were trying to do, exactly. They "weren't allowed to tell me." [Which annoyed him, even if he wasn't interested in what they were doing.]
