Welcome to all the New Feathers of this cycle. I am sure that residents, especially the volunteers working in the Welcome Center, have been helpful as you adjust to your surroundings.

Some may have noticed that there are stations some distance away from the village -- watch stations where New Feathers may find clothing or shelter. Residents may also use them as stopping points as they explore the surrounding forests and plains. They are maintained by a group of volunteers, which has been without a head organizer for a few months now. If anyone is interested in taking on this responsibility, please speak with me, Albert Silverberg.

Recent additions to the enclosure are the expansive farmlands to the northeast of the village. There are numbers of farm animals and growing crops up there that are in need of caretaking. While the village has the grocery store for easy access to food, I am sure some would relish opportunity to work with crops and animals.

If there are any questions about these subjects, they may be asked here. Thank you.

[Around noon, Albert may be found in the clothing store, looking for clothing for warmer weather. Maybe he'll attempt to tan this year. It's been awhile.

Later in the day, he will be in the stables tending to his horse. He will be out there for several hours before retiring for the evening to the house, reading a "Computers for Seniors for Dummies" book. Very funny, Bil.]

In that case, have you ever considered the wide and varied applications of the man-scarf?

[He raises a brow.] ...I wasn't aware there were such wide and varied uses of a scarf. [A scarf is a very practical accessory.]

Of course! There's...looking good. And keeping warm. And looking even better.

[ a few months ago she would have been as bold as to wrap it around him herself; however, right now buffy is interested in maintaining professional boundaries. she hands it over to him. ]

And this scarf would not be strange in this weather? [He takes the scarf, looking it over before carefully arranging it around his neck and musing aloud.] Black and blue.

It still gets pretty rainy and miserable until the end of June, if you ask me. Home would be so much nicer, right now.

You are much more used to hot and dry weather, I take it. [He looks at himself in a mirror, picking at the scarf. He's never experimented with scarves and short-sleeved tops.]

There was a desert not far out of town. It was that kind of a climate.

So being surrounded by trees and rivers is quite a change for you.

Oh, we had trees. Just...different kinds. There's not a whole lot of wild where I'm from. Or -- there is, just not near me. It's all pretty changed and cultivated and built on.

Would you prefer it, now that you have been here awhile? Away from the wilderness and less cultivated village?

...Probably? Yes. But even if I was back in my own world, Albert -- I couldn't go back home.

[Considering what he knows of her world...] Too dangerous?

The whole town's just a crater, now. My old house doesn't even exist.

[...] But you and your friends survived.

Sunnydale was evacuated a few days earlier but -- but not all of us made it out. The ones who stayed to fight? A lot of them fell.

[He nods slowly, taking this in even as he turns back to the clothing racks.] We don't have to talk about this, Buffy. [Leaving the option open.]

It's the kind of cost I've grown accustomed to, Albert. Don't worry about it.

[ though she was careful not to lie to him and tell him that she was perfectly okay with the subject.

she toys with a pair of men's sunglasses, looking from them to albert's face. thoughtfully. ]

Battles with demons and the unknown. I suppose there would be highs 'costs' when you are the lone Slayer. [His voice is wry.]

[ she reaches over and sets the sunglasses on albert's face. ]

Funny thing about that -- the costs got higher when I wasn't the only one.

[It might look a little funny how Albert's brow rises with his eyes shaded--in reaction to both Buffy's action and words.]

If there were more than one, I would presume that was because the threats were more numerous, more dangerous.

High class. [Well, maybe. It's perhaps more of a joke, but he smirks despite himself. He resists the urge to adjust or completely remove the sunglasses.

...But since he has Buffy here...]

Since we are on the topic of clothing and accessories... Do you recall that pair of pants you had me borrow from Doctor McCoy? [This was over half a year ago now, and he looks in the direction of the store he had last seen those kinds of pants.] I don't believe you ever told me what kind of material that was.

Oh -- the jeans? Denim, I guess. Why? Are you in the market?

They seem like they would be better suited for the amount of work I do. [That is, they probably won't shred or have holes put into them if he gets them caught in a stray nail or piece of wood.]

...Or you could just get some 'cause they look good.
