As a follow-up reminder to Rydia's latest entry, this month is likely to be another New Feather cycle month if the new Organization management continues the trend. The Welcome Center is always looking for volunteers when New Feathers arrive.

While the weather may be warmer, there are still watch stations outside the village that should be maintained and well-stocked. Any volunteers are welcome. For now, I am organizing the effort, but I am looking for someone to take over that responsibility.

[There is a slight pause.] Is anyone working on the farmlands outside the village? I am curious to know what crops are being grown out there.

[Albert isn't up to anything special today. He's finally getting around to taking care of and sharpening that sword he had asked Sokka for during that reality-shifting experiment. He can be found working on the steps of his house, looking the sword this way and that as he works on it; it's more work than he usually has to put into sharpening an axe.

Afterwards, he'll make his usual rounds of tending to his garden and checking on the stables. ...Which will lead to a trip to the grocery store, because the horses need more grains.]

I can keep an eye on a watch station or two again this cycle. I haven't been in the village much lately anyway.

There are the two out on the northern fields, and the two to the south in and along the forest. Can you handle the two stations to the north?

Eh, it's something to do. Better to be useful than just sit around.

I take it that you are used to doing more than you find in Luceti? [Some people were fortunate to find actual jobs that they could adjust to, but most were just indulging in hobbies.]

You could say that, yeah. Used to be able to actually do stuff, too, instead of being stuck only reacting to what the Malnosso do.

May I ask what you used to do before you arrived?

[Pause. How to describe this.]

I'm... the advisor to the king, I guess you'd say.

You guess? [He only briefly muses over that.] I suppose I can see why you are with little to do.

It's a little more complicated than that, but yeah. I'm used to a lot more room to move, too.

Indeed. The barrier becomes rather stifling when you have traveled the entire length of it.

You've done it, too?

I am admittedly not as well-traveled as others, especially into the mountains, but I have traveled all over the lowlands in the time I have been here.

The barrier is still the barrier wherever you run into it. You aren't missing that much, really.

I came to the same conclusion. [His voice dips into a dry tone.] Leaving on the drafts offers some change of scenery, but of course that's not why anyone is out there.

[He's silent for a minute before responding, and when he does can't hide the distaste in his tone.]

No. It isn't.

And I'd rather not see anything outside the barrier if that's the only opportunity.

Understandable. It's unfortunate that we have no say in the actual matter, and are forced to prepare ourselves for the possibility.

Unfortunate is a rather mild word for it.

[Hm. A passionate dislike towards war?] Perhaps it is. A stronger sentiment will not change the fact.

Is war common in your world?

Fortunately, no.

Well, there's unrest in a couple of the kingdoms right now, but... it's rare for things to escalate to open war, since it's almost impossible for one king to attack another kingdom.

[A slight nod. Unrest was not uncommon, though unrest in several places at the same time often did not speak well for the state of the world.] Impossible? Besides foregoing treaties and severing trade agreements?

I'm sure trade is good and all, but, well. If a king leads his armies into another kingdom he'll die.

[...Well. That answer leaves Albert with something of an openly surprised expression. For a moment, at least.]

A sure safeguard against war if ever I have heard of one. Is it a curse of some kind?

I don't know if I'd call it a curse, it's... well, the king is only on the throne because he has the mandate of Heaven. If he violates the laws like that, he loses the throne and his life.
