∞ 101: Quiet disappearance [voice/action]

[It's almost midnight and he hasn't received a response from Raine for almost three hours. Raine could be kept busy after school from time to time, but she had not mentioned anything that would keep her out late today -- especially this late.]

Has anyone seen or spoken to Professor Sage today? She is not answering to messages from her journal.

[Despite the chill in the air so late at night, Albert stands out on the porch outside of his house. There is fortunately no snow tonight, so he was able to send out Rune to scout around the nearby forests.

Part of him has already concluded that it's likely Raine was abducted by the rogue facilities. She had certainly not been sent back to her world, as her belongings were still intact and the journal system still recognized that she was there. But ... there was the faint concern that something else might have happened. Luceti wasn't safe from its own residents, after all.]

Does it really matter? It's all going to the same place.

If you want them cooking evenly, yes. [He gives his brother a look, as if he was supposed to know that already.]

I'm sure it'll taste fine either way. [He waves a hand dismissively, making his way over to the counter. Let's see, where can he find a knife...]

Taste and presentation. Both tend to be necessary. [...If he was the type, he'd roll his eyes. For now, he finishes pulling all of the necessary vegetables out of the refrigerator, plus the chicken he had intended to cook earlier for dinner.

If Caesar is still hunting down a knife, Albert will pull out a cooking pot and chopping boards.]

All right, all right. I'll try to stay awake for this, for the sake of presentation.

[It doesn't take Caesar long to find one, so he brings it to the counter when he does, waiting while his brother brings out a cutting board for him.]

Vegetable peeler. [Albert also brings out this handy little instrument when he gives Caesar the cutting board. The peeler was so much nicer than trying to cut things with a knife.] Your first task is peeling the carrots.

[Caesar tilts his head at the peeler. He's never used this thing before.]

With that?

[Your brother is unimpressed, Caesar.]

Would you rather slice your hand open with a knife?

[Excuse him for not being familiar with all these weird kitchen objects...!]

At least I know how to use a knife.

[...Very unimpressed.

Albert takes one of the carrots, holding it firmly before pressing the peeler down and moving it away from his body. The instrument easily peels off a long piece of the carrot's skin.]

Was that so difficult?

I'll be the judge of that. [He holds out his hand to accept the peeler and the carrot from his brother. This was Albert, so for all he knows, it might not be as easy as it looks!]

[Albert shakes his head, handing over the peeler before going back and sorting through the other vegetables.]

I suppose if you have trouble peeling carrots, I can give you the easier task of cutting tomatoes.

I appreciate your concern, but I think I can handle it. [Or, at least, he'd try, given the very unimpressed look his brother had given him just now.] Have a little faith in me, brother!

[Now let's see, how had Albert done this...]

Very well. A little faith. [He sets the tomatoes on another cutting board, then begins filling the cooking pot with water at the sink.] Three carrots should be enough.

All right. [It's kind of strange to peel carrots like this, but after a couple attempts, he thinks he's getting the hang of it. It's really not so bad doing it like this after all.] What else are we putting in it?

Celery, tomatoes, chicken. Seasoning. [He glances at Caesar as he brings the pot of water over to the stove and turns on the burner.] What else would you want in a chicken soup?

[He shrugs.]

Sounds fine to me. I was just wondering how many vegetables I'd have to cut.

[And peel. :|]

Is it that much of a bother? I could certainly allow you to go back to your important task of playing with your dog.

[Said dog is sniffing at his rolling ball around the kitchen, following after it wherever it goes.

Who said it would be a bother? Don't be so presumptuous! I was simply curious, that's all. I don't mind.

[In fact, he's already done peeling a whole carrot! That went faster than he expected it to.]

Good. I might have had something to say about you volunteering and then backing out so quickly. [With the water on the stove, Albert goes to get some extra plates -- one for the vegetables and another for the meat. He moves the tomatoes closer to Caesar's chopping board before bringing over the chicken he had removed from the fridge.]

Did you really think I'd give up so soon? This is my dinner, too, you know.

[If he had backed out now, he's sure he wouldn't be receiving any dinner.]

I simply know how strong your sense of laziness can be. You may even heed it more so than your need for sustenance.

[He washes his hands before he begins cutting into the chicken he has.]

Th-that's only true sometimes. [Or a lot of the time, if the way he said that is anything to go by.] Perhaps if I had no choice but to cook by myself, I would have just gone to sleep.

Thus proving how strong your sense of laziness actually is. [He shakes his head, but he'll fall silent so he can focus on chopping up the chicken. Once he's done, he'll put the chicken into the pot of water.] How are you doing with those vegetables?

Almost done. [With chopping the carrots, that is. The tomatoes would be quicker and easier to chop up once he was finished with these.] ...almost.

[Not that he was in a rush, though. He didn't like tomatoes very much.]
