∞ 76: Preparations for battle [written]

How disappointing. One would think the Malnosso would compile their willing volunteers instead of taking risks like this.

Though some of you have already said you will not participate, I am reminding you that your request has been "noted" and nothing more. It's still entirely possible the scientists will find a way to force you to go. This is said as a precaution; do not presume you will be allowed to stay, and prepare accordingly. There must be a reason they gave such a specific list instead of calling for volunteers to report in.

That said, if any of you wish to participate in planning, or feel the need to go into this battle with some ideas in mind, know that I will coordinate with you as best I can.
I expect we will have a few who will do what they wish out there alone, regardless of any tactics, but the majority will benefit from cooperative attacks.

For those who are unaware, we had previously fought against 300 individuals with a combat force of approximately 150. That battle lasted about two days, with complete elimination of the intruders. The disadvantages this time around are obvious; we will be the invading force with much smaller numbers and on unfamiliar terrain, thus leading to greater risks of fatigue and death.

There is the matter of the ... monthly announcements. They could be done in the following week, or after we return from this battle. I still have not decided.

I suppose it would depend on whether or not you wanted your battle observations to be separate from the general update or not. But there's still a little time left to decide.

Yes, that is what I'm currently debating over. [And he won't get that general update out before he leaves.] If you have time, I would appreciate you doing the general update while we are away. If you don't, we can compile everything after we return from ... Desset. [It's strange that they now have another location that they can "return" from.]

[He looks a little amused at the mentioning of the suggestion box.] Did you find anything of interest in there?

Not many of the suggestions were particularly useful, and some were... misguided, at best. Though there were only a handful to begin with. People simply may not have anything in mind to suggest.

[Albert listens with that same amusement at first, but then raises a brow as he takes the two notes from Raine. He frowns as he reads them over.]

This first one seems to be a warning -- likely for Hugo. ...This other one can be ignored.

I don't think he's seen it yet, or it wouldn't have been in the box when we opened it. [She raises an eyebrow at the second response though.] I'm almost curious, though perhaps it's better off not knowing.

Some of the other ideas involved installing bells around the village, or building ... small boats... for easier travel to the lakes. Someone wanted to gather people in an attempt to study the forces behind shifting.

You may want to give it to him, in that case. [He waves off the raised eyebrow, giving the two notes back.] It pertained to the wine fountain during that 'Dragobete' holiday. I had wondered why I didn't hear any yelling over the journals.

...Bells? Whatever for? The boats may have some merit. And there is really nowhere to start to understand Shifting on our end, unfortunately.

It would also likely depend on these 'key points'. Though it comes from a newer resident, so I suppose it's to be expected.

We can't dismiss the ideas simply because they come from newer residents. There is merit in letting them see just how effective-- [or ineffective] --their ideas may be.

It could very well be an interesting improvement.

I had the thought that Brave Vesperia could aid with it as well.

Aside from the suggestions, there are also the other projects that residents have taken up that likely could use a mention. Is there anything else you think I should address specifically?

I will leave that up to you. These are general announcements, after all. You should be more focused on deciding what subjects should be moving into the guide.

The Malnosso Organization undergoing this 'change of hands' may prove beneficial to that end. Though people may need a heady reminder that they are still the organization, and shouldn't be revealing things.

I'm still finding myself at a loss as to how some subjects should be handled... hopefully, after this first battle wraps up, I can finally implement a sturdier revision.

A more up-to-date revision, capturing some of this newer information, will make it easier to separate facts we should be keeping off of the journals. It is something to think about completing in the near future.

[She goes quiet for a moment, gauging the time of day.] Did you have any other plans in mind for today?

[The days are slowly growing longer, but it will only be an hour or two before sunset.] I believe I've done enough for today. We may hear more before the departure date.

It's likely. At least for now, we'll have a quiet evening.

For now. Perhaps you can give me some suggestions for items to bring out there. [Just in case he really is a part of the battle. The idea doesn't please him at all.]

... Well, besides a guard, you'll need a way of defending yourself. I don't suppose you'd be interested in borrowing a staff?
