Welcome to all the New Feathers of this cycle. I am sure that residents, especially the volunteers working in the Welcome Center, have been helpful as you adjust to your surroundings.

Some may have noticed that there are stations some distance away from the village -- watch stations where New Feathers may find clothing or shelter. Residents may also use them as stopping points as they explore the surrounding forests and plains. They are maintained by a group of volunteers, which has been without a head organizer for a few months now. If anyone is interested in taking on this responsibility, please speak with me, Albert Silverberg.

Recent additions to the enclosure are the expansive farmlands to the northeast of the village. There are numbers of farm animals and growing crops up there that are in need of caretaking. While the village has the grocery store for easy access to food, I am sure some would relish opportunity to work with crops and animals.

If there are any questions about these subjects, they may be asked here. Thank you.

[Around noon, Albert may be found in the clothing store, looking for clothing for warmer weather. Maybe he'll attempt to tan this year. It's been awhile.

Later in the day, he will be in the stables tending to his horse. He will be out there for several hours before retiring for the evening to the house, reading a "Computers for Seniors for Dummies" book. Very funny, Bil.]

[She nods, before resuming her slicing.] That makes sense. I wouldn't want the flavors to get overwhelmed.

It wouldn't be as light a dessert if you added other ingredients, in any case. [He pours himself some wine, then removes a fork from the cutlery drawer to pick a fruit from the bowl Raine has.]

[With her tendency to get carried away, that's a fairly good point. The bowl right now has the grapes, pear, and apple in it.] Perhaps not. I suppose it's not very often that I'll take a dessert, anyway.

[He tests the apple with a sip of wine, finishing eating before speaking.] That's right. And I see you refrained from lemon tonight, so it seems you had a specific taste you had in mind.

I was in the mood for something light and crisp. I had just started with the grapes at first, but the other fruits seemed to fit right in.

They do make a good mix. [He continues to hold on to the fork as he leans away from the bowl, focusing on sipping more of his wine.]

[She sets down the knife for the moment, moving to get the second bowl out to divide it evenly.] And it goes with your wine?

You would be surprised what a good white wine goes well with. [He takes a seat at the island, setting the fork on the lip of one of the bowls so he can set down the book under his arm.]

[... Well. No need for him to repeat himself. Instead she'll give a slight nod and then glance to his book instead.] ... That's a wordy title.

"For seniors for dummies." [He doesn't bother to hide the wry note in his voice.] I fail to see why the emphasis on seniors was necessary.

[She notes his wryness as she takes a better look at the cover.] I suppose it could be a part of the culture, but I don't know if there's something around to compare it to. How much have you read?

Just the introduction and the first few chapters. Buying a computer, setting up a computer. A brief explanation of different kinds of computers. [He shakes his head; he's already familiar with some of the aspects, but learning about the expansive world of personal computers is ... well, not something he was expecting.]

Sounds informative. [And an eyebrow raise-] Are you looking to request a personal computer anytime soon?

I ... had no intention to. [There is something approaching chagrin in his voice.] But Bil insisted on giving one when I explained that I was looking to understand the technology. The books arrived first.

That's one way of getting into the technology. [... But for seniors?] What a nice present.

I do wonder if he will manage to deliver it, in his current location. It's been awhile since we spoke, and a computer seems more difficult than some smaller trinket.

[It's a good thing he really has no idea what to do with it.]

I'm sure he'll find a way, if he said he was still taking requests. It might be interesting having the extra technology around, if we can put it to good use.

By your tone, it sounds as if you already have ideas.

Not in particular, though I'd have to study more about the practical applications of the system to be certain. [She shrugs a little, distributing the orange slices and then moving to clean up the mess.]

"Practical applications"?

Anything that it might be useful for, perhaps for the school or having another place to store records.

Then I suppose you will want the computer? [He almost sounds amused, but not quite.]

I don't want one enough to ask for it personally. [ She picks up an orange slice. ] I was only saying that if you were to get one, it might be interesting to see what it could be used for.

Then you are speaking in hypotheticals.

Well, you did say that it wasn't something definite. Although it does make me wonder.
