∞ 96: Reminders [voice/action]

As a follow-up reminder to Rydia's latest entry, this month is likely to be another New Feather cycle month if the new Organization management continues the trend. The Welcome Center is always looking for volunteers when New Feathers arrive.

While the weather may be warmer, there are still watch stations outside the village that should be maintained and well-stocked. Any volunteers are welcome. For now, I am organizing the effort, but I am looking for someone to take over that responsibility.

[There is a slight pause.] Is anyone working on the farmlands outside the village? I am curious to know what crops are being grown out there.

[Albert isn't up to anything special today. He's finally getting around to taking care of and sharpening that sword he had asked Sokka for during that reality-shifting experiment. He can be found working on the steps of his house, looking the sword this way and that as he works on it; it's more work than he usually has to put into sharpening an axe.

Afterwards, he'll make his usual rounds of tending to his garden and checking on the stables. ...Which will lead to a trip to the grocery store, because the horses need more grains.]

Absolutely. [He'll look over at Kogoro, too, and tilt his head.] Hey. Which one of us would you rather spend the rest of the day with?

What an enticing way to present the question. [Even with the sarcasm, Albert keeps looking at the dog.

Kogoro, for his part, looks somewhat confused. He even wags his tail uncertainly.]

What else was I supposed to say? [It was the truth! Kogoro doesn't seem to get it, though, so Caesar will try something else. He gestures between himself and his brother.] Me or him?

[Kogoro yawns, but stands up and shakes himself off. He trots over to Caesar, wagging his tail and looking at his hand.]

The extra movement must have lured him over.

...great. [He's probably right, but Caesar will still lean down to pat the dog on the head.] I guess it's fine. I was going to offer to keep him with me in the stables anyway.

If he is tired, as he seems to be, I'm sure he won't give you much trouble. [He could be disappointed, but he definitely doesn't show it. In fact, he just seems amused.]

Probably not. [He stands back up and looks over to his brother.] Are you sure you won't take him?

[He wouldn't mind! Really!]

[Albert looks down at Kogoro, who wags his tail a little at the attention; the dog seems content where he is, though.] It seems he's already made his choice, Caesar. You will have to live with the consequences.

I suppose this means you get the rest of the day off! How fortunate for you. [Well. It wouldn't be that bad. But he can still complain.] Do not worry, brother. I have already decided to grant you permission to come and visit him.

[Of course, judging by his tone, that's another exaggeration. Albert certainly didn't need permission for that.]

I see. Perhaps I will take you up on that offer. [And, you know, sit underneath a tree with Kogoro while Caesar slaves away. Sounds like a good day to him.]

[Oh yes, he can just see it now... Caesar yawns, stretching his arms a bit.]

Guess I'd better get an early start. [...well.] After I eat.

[...That's worth a raised eyebrow.]

Why have you not eaten yet?

[There's a brief moment of hesitance before he answers.]

...I fear that I may have fallen asleep around lunchtime.

[Just in case you needed more confirmation of the pampered lifestyle that Caesar leads here.]

[A sigh. He's not really surprised. Caesar's sleeping habits are entirely predictable now.]

Shall I applaud?

No need, dear brother. No need. [There would have been no point in lying about that. Sigh.] Anyway, if you'll be working out here, I hope you won't mind if I eat out here, too.

As long as you are not expecting full conversation while you are eating. I do have other things to do around the yard.

Certainly, certainly. I'm not here to disturb you! [Well. Not that much. He steps away from the railing and moves toward the front door.] Do you want anything?

[There is a thoughtful silence before he responds, even as he returns to looking at his sword.]

Fruit. We have some pears in the refrigerator.

I'll bring some back for you, then.

[He steps over Kogoro before heading back into the house. He actually closes the door this time, so maybe the dog will feel more inclined to stay with Albert while Caesar gets something to eat.]

[As soon as Caesar leaves, Kogoro wags his tail a few times at Albert as if expecting some sort of reward. Almost begrudgingly, Albert reaches into his pocket and tosses a piece of teriyaki jerky to the dog.]

[And of course, Kogoro has no complaints. He barks in that strange way of his and happily eats his treat. He loves it here.

It's already well enough into the afternoon that Caesar isn't going to spend too much time on lunch. (...not that he'd spend a lot of time on it normally, either.) A sandwich, some fruit, and juice? That sounds like a pretty good idea. Since he decides to cut up his fruit, he'll cut up the pears, too, so when he returns to the porch, it's with two plates and his glass of juice.

He puts his lunch down first before offering Albert his plate.]

You're welcome.

Balancing two plates, Caesar? So much coordination on my behalf. [Even as he says that, there is a slight, polite smile on his face. He nods in thanks as he takes the plate.]

Impressive, isn't it? [He smirks, of course.] I try, I try.

[Caesar goes to sit down at the table on the porch. He picks up a couple small pieces of ham he'd also put on his plate and holds them out for his dog.

...between the brothers, that dog is absolutely spoiled.]

[Kogoro snuffles Caesar's hand before taking the proffered treats, wagging his tail and panting happily. Albert shakes his head, removing a glove so he doesn't have to worry about dirtying the pear before actually eating the fruit.]

Have you taught him how to fetch yet?

[Caesar wipes his hand off on a napkin, and takes a sip of his juice while listening to his question.]

I've tried. I, uh... don't think he's getting it.
