As a follow-up reminder to Rydia's latest entry, this month is likely to be another New Feather cycle month if the new Organization management continues the trend. The Welcome Center is always looking for volunteers when New Feathers arrive.

While the weather may be warmer, there are still watch stations outside the village that should be maintained and well-stocked. Any volunteers are welcome. For now, I am organizing the effort, but I am looking for someone to take over that responsibility.

[There is a slight pause.] Is anyone working on the farmlands outside the village? I am curious to know what crops are being grown out there.

[Albert isn't up to anything special today. He's finally getting around to taking care of and sharpening that sword he had asked Sokka for during that reality-shifting experiment. He can be found working on the steps of his house, looking the sword this way and that as he works on it; it's more work than he usually has to put into sharpening an axe.

Afterwards, he'll make his usual rounds of tending to his garden and checking on the stables. ...Which will lead to a trip to the grocery store, because the horses need more grains.]

[He stops entirely in his work, his full attention on Caesar.]

There are risks involved in summoning. I have not yet felt the need outweighs those risks.

I see. [He nods. He doesn't seem to have any problems with that answer.] You expect we'll see more of those things?

I would rather be prepared than not. During the last draft, I had to pick up swords dropped by the soldiers.

I know, I know. Better safe than sorry. [He just doesn't like it. It's not supposed to be this way.] "Defending oneself is a vital skill," after all.

I do have other means to protect myself, but he is far from what should be seen by others. I believe we held out against picking up arms ourselves for as long as we realistically could.

[He wants to argue like you wouldn't believe, but he had even fewer ways to protect himself than his brother did. He knows he's right, and as usual, he hates it.]

There really is no other choice, huh...?

As long as we are on the battlefield as we have been, there are too many risks to remain stubborn about this. I may have other ways to avoid danger, but you...

[Well. He trails off there. That had been something of a slip. Caesar did not need to know he was concerned.]

[For a brief moment, Caesar doesn't say anything. He was... worried about him?]

Don't worry, I get it. This goes for both of us, right?

[He's appreciative of the concern. If it's something Albert's taking so seriously, then... well, maybe he should, too.]

I have been cut, I have been bitten. Both times, I was fortunate not to lose my life in the process. You are nowhere near prepared to protect yourself should the need present itself, Caesar. We will not always have the luxury of space between ourselves and our opponents.

I know. Things are different here. [And he hated that. Of course, there were reasons that he worried about his brother, but he'd forgotten that maybe... his brother might have those worries, too. He nods in the direction of the blade.] But this had better make a difference, okay? I'm getting tired of how close you're cutting it these days.

[His response is wry, considering the topic they are discussing.] I came back with all my limbs intact, did I not? There is something to be said about that.

That you have surprisingly good luck, maybe. [And, well, he must if he always came back in one piece. That was why Caesar had never complained.] But you can't rely on that alone.

I'm quite aware I cannot rely on luck. Are you?

I haven't run into half as much trouble as you have. My luck is surely much better. [He shakes his head. Joking aside...] I can't tell you to be careful if I have no intention of being careful myself.

Indeed. You can't. You would think that would be reason enough to take measures to protect yourself.

I stay out of trouble, so I've never had to worry about it.

And when the trouble comes to you, Caesar?

Then I'll distract them long enough to find my way out of it. [He almost sounds dismissive, though. He hasn't been in a situation like that in a long time, so it wasn't like he'd had anything planned.] I don't think I'd be able to deal with those Shift Hunters on my own, however.

[Oh, that dismissive tone. Albert will ignore it for now.] Indeed. Shikamaru has given me a good estimate of their speed, and you have no chance running away from them.

I didn't think so. That would be far too easy. [What a pain. He sighs a little.] But I don't intend to try my luck against those jerks.

[Especially not when he knew that his brother had already had a bad experience with them. There was no guarantee that he would not end up affected by some kind of shift in the future that would get their attention, either.]

Then take some precautions. I don't particularly care what -- learn to use a weapon, find yourself a good bodyguard, something sensible for the situation. [He pauses with a frown.] I shouldn't have to tell you this.

I'd say you've put things in perspective for me. [If he hadn't said anything, he wouldn't have known how serious this was. ...not until he'd had his own bad experience with these monsters, at least.] I'll look into it, okay? I'll figure something out. I'll be so prepared by the next draft, you won't even realize it's me!

I know how dismissive you can be. Good ideas shouldn't have to come from me before you consider them. [What if he disappeared and Caesar was left alone here? ...Not that that seemed likely.]

I would have considered it when I knew it was necessary. [...well. Maybe. And by that time, it might've been too late.] But I won't just dismiss this.

Good. I would be disappointed if you did. [And disappointment from him? Not a particularly good thing in the long run.]
